It’s that time of year when a lot of us are heading off on holiday, leaving thoughts of our workplace a distant memory for a week or two.

Whilst you’re sunning yourself on a beach, you won’t be thinking about the tidiness of your desk, or the half eaten sandwich left in your bin, but leaving your workspace clean will keep your colleagues happy and mean that you won’t come back to a mess…just several hundred emails probably!

So, before you go on holiday:

  • Tidy your desk – it is likely that you’ll need to handover work before your holiday, so take that opportunity to tidy up and handover any necessary paperwork. A lot of people feel a bit flat on their first day back at work after a break, so think what it’ll do to your mood if you get back to a messy desk as well!
  • File your paperwork – for the same reasons as above, you don’t want to come back to a paper avalanche on your desk and also, your colleagues may need to locate it while you’re away.
  • Empty your bin – not only will any leftover food start to smell, but it’ll also attract insects if your office windows are open.
  • Clear any of your food out of the shared fridge – if you have anything in the office fridge that goes out of date whilst you’re away, throw it away so your colleagues don’t have to play ‘hunt the smell’!

A thorough office clean or desk clean before you leave is the best way to unwind on your holiday and create an inviting workspace to come back to.

And if you need any more tips, just ask.

Until next time,
