On the surface, your office might seem like a nice, clean place to work. But studies have revealed some really rather frightening facts about the cleanliness of the average office.

Let me ask you a question…would you eat your lunch on the toilet seat?

I can almost hear you yelling ‘eugh, no!’ as you read that!

But a study has claimed that there are more germs on your office phone and keyboard than a toilet seat. In fact, it is said that there are almost 400 times as many microbes on your desk as found in a toilet.

Yuck!

It was microbiologist Dr Charles Gerba, of the University of Arizona, who carried out the research that makes many of us shudder at the thought.

Of course, as an office cleaning company, we know that office equipment should be regularly disinfected to cut down on these germs, which helps to prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses. As we are heading into Autumn and coughs and colds are becoming more widespread, it is worrying to know that germs from colds and flu viruses can survive on surfaces for up to 72 hours.

The majority of us will immediately clean up food spills on our desks, but keyboards and phones in particular, which can sit without being cleaned for long periods of time can harbour millions of bacteria. This will cause illnesses amongst staff, which could lead to reduced productivity or sick days, which are all bad for business.

We should all have good hygiene practice both at work and in the home but we know that cleaning is not the top priority of most businesses…except ours!

We can’t promise to give you a 100% sterile environment but we are here to help drive those germs away. Just contact us to find out how.
